DAVAO CITY, Philippines—A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck southern Mindanao at 2:21 p.m. Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake, tectonic in origin, was traced at 105 kilometers east of the city, with a depth of 110.2 kilometers.
The USGS said the tremor was also felt in Hinatuan, Surigao and General Santos City.
There was no immediate report of damage and no tsunami warning was issued either.
The Philippines sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes regularly occur.
The most deadly earthquake that hit Mindanao happened in 1976, when a tsunami hit the areas around the Moro Gulf, including the cities of Cotabato and Pagadian.
